Janet Golder Kngwarreye was born in 1973 in Mulga Bore, Northern Territory. She is the daughter of Margaret Golder and Sammy Pitjara and grand-daughter of Old Henry Pitjara and Angelina Ngale. Janet’s other Grandfather is renowned artist Kudditji Kngwarreye. The very famous Emily Kame Kngwarreye is her great aunt.
Janet is married to Ronnie Bird, son of artists, Paddy and Eileen Bird. Together they have four children, Rochelle, Renedy, Katrina and Troyton. Janet would have been taught to paint by her family and has been painting since 1997. Her painting style is even, fine dot work, creating linear patterns and the major subject she paints is Awelye (ceremonial body paint design). Janet is also able to paint other stories including Mountain Devil Lizard and Emy.
She is a talented artist, taught by her extended family of well known artists. Janet is custodian of a number of dreamings, predominantly Bush Medicine and ceremonial body paint and Mountain Devil Lizard. Her works depict Atnwelarre and Kame, Awelye (Women’s Ceremonial Body Paint), Jerma Seed, Bush Yam or Yam Leaf.
